The LIXIL Ushioda East Asian Humanities Initiative is a new international research project in the humanities, grounded in the study of East Asia including Japan, underway at HMC from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2022 with financial support from the LIXIL Group Corporation (now LIXIL Corporation) and its chairman, Mr. Yoichiro Ushioda.

By offering two categories of research ─ Planned Research Projects and Open Research Projects (A), Open Research Projects (B) ─ the aim is to create new knowledge by promoting collaborative research across departments and disciplines and, in particular, dialogue between different research projects.
