“Asian Thought as a World Philosophy”

New challenges such as “world literature” or “global history” are undertaken in the radical shift of the human sciences. In the same vein, we are asked to re-think of philosophy as “world philosophy.” While the framework of modern philosophy is re-interrogated, so-called “Asian thought” should be transformed to what could contribute to the new universality, by going beyond its previous understanding as mere regional thought or philosophy. In this symposium, we discuss the potentiality of Asian thought as world philosophy, and seek the method to open up the “indigenous theory” to the universal.
